Warped full width of the loom using JulieSpins natural colored blend of merino/yak/silk, with SCF Oceanic warped every inch or so. The SCF was spun much finer than the JS, so those warp accents are threaded double.
The weft was all SCF Oceanic, which I started spinning in January 2012, finishing one full 4 oz before realizing I wanted another 4oz. I managed to score an extra bump via ISO/destash, and then took my time spinning it (read:procrastinated).
I warped the loom after starting a weaving class at my local guild. I wanted to sort of follow along at home, even though I was learning in a floor loom and own a rigid heddle.
I had some tensioning issues, partly due to my inexperience and partly due to using a mix of fiber types. I had to make a number of adjustments and even unwove and retied the warp on the back beam. I ended up using the pick-up stick to help with the tension difference between the bfl/silk and the merino/yak/silk about halfway through weaving, and that made a huge difference in evenness.
I finished this by tying the warp threads in groups of 4, then split those into 2 threads for a twisted fringe. Prior to twisting the paired threads, I placed a bead on one of the two threads, securing each at a different spot for a little asymmetrical flash. This took a long time⦠Then, I slightly filled the finished object with hot water, Soak, and dainty agitation.
Gifted to mom for Christmas and she loves it! I found a delicate, simple shawl pin to go with it, too.
