Notes

I was slightly concerned at the lack of gauge given in the pattern (since the last two things I made turned out too big), but these turned out a good size I think. My gauge was: 17 stitches and 28 rows per 4”.

I used 6 rows of ribbing, knit the body of the mitten for only 2”, and knit the thumb for 1.5”. So basically, I stayed on the short end of all of the variables. My mittens turned out 5” long, and 3.5” across the hand.

To work the stripes, I started the first red stripe on “R5” in the pattern. I worked them as follows:
-2 rounds in red
-2 rounds in black
-6 rounds in red
-2 rounds in black
-2 rounds in red
I then switched back to black for the remainder of the mitten. The thumb was made with 6 rounds of red (I used red to pick up the 6 stitches along the hand side also), and then 3 rounds of black.
