My sister is a super-huge Arsenal fan, so imagine my frustration when I came across this pattern eleven days before Christmas. Nevermind that I had never attempted a stranded colorwork project before; I had to go for it.

The pattern appears to be for a child-sized hat. To make it adult-sized, I simply(/lazily) increased both the yarn weight and needle size (to worsted and Size 7’s, respectively). The resulting hat is pretty large (emphasis on the height / calico included for scale) and roomy, perfect for my sister’s giant head and penchant towards ridiculous slouchy hats - but anyone following my lead may want to reduce the needle size down a bit.

Again, this is my first stranded project and you can tell that my float tension was a bit…erm, tight. Courtesy of the acrylic yarn, blocking did little to remedy this. Regardless, my sister LOVED this absurd mass of yarn and slapped it on her head immediately. Well worth the struggle. :)

Additional mods: Increased ribbed hem - one inch worth of blue, three rows in gold. Left off the word “gunners” and the bullseye at the tippy-top of the hat. Added a pompom for funsies.
