I knit Ubernaturals whenever I become frustrated with a difficult or time-consuming project. Seriously, this pattern knits up in less than a week and is about as instantly gratifying as they come. Complex lace patterns making you doubt your prowess as a knitter? Take an Ubernatural break. Give one to a non-knitting friend and bask in their awe and appreciation.
This is one of two identical Ubers - one for me and the other a gift for my friend, Nina. A few notes on using this yarn: The gauge on the recommended needles is smaller, so I’d knit at least a size up, if not two. I generally prefer to reduce the waist shaping to one or two decreases, as the lower half tends to get tight. I’ve also extended the amount of stockinette and decreased the ribbing at the hem of the sweater as a personal preference. The cardigan pictured was knit using the size 15 needles only; I did not switch to a smaller size, as called for in the pattern. (If you do decide to go down a needle size, I’d recommend size 13’s over size 11’s, lest things get kind of tight.)
Specific Mods/Errata (borrowing from Le Sophie on Craftster):
-
Cast on in counts of 44 (54, 64, 74).
-
Buttonholes knit as “k2 yo k2tog” (versus “k3 yo k2tog”) in order to maintain stitch count.
-
Row 2: Adjusted stitch count. A knit stitch needs to be worked between the two yarn-overs, i.e. “yo, pass marker, k1, yo”. Full row: “K2, yo, K2tog, knit 3 (5, 7, 9) yo, pm, k1, yo, knit 4 (6, 8, 10) yo, pm, k1, yo, knit 18 (20, 22, 24) yo pm k1 yo, knit 4 (6, 8, 10) yo, pm, k1, yo, knit 7 (9, 11, 13).”
