Notes

In the same conversation that inspired the slouchy hat for KaeDee, Emma asked for an Icelandic-style hat. This pattern looked it would deliver what I wanted.

This is my first time attempting Fair Isle knitting, but I’ve been meaning to try it for a while!

I wasn’t happy with how tight everything was (because I was tacking my floats too tightly), so I frogged back to the beginning of the Fair Isle chart.

Also, I don’t think I was maintaining the proper colour dominance, so I’ve done some more research and am going to try it again. Now that I have the hang of the actual process, it shouldn’t take too long to knit back up.

Colourwork done! Now I just have to add a little more length and shape the crown.

Finished this almost a month ago, and then I had so much wool left over that I decided the hat demanded matching mittens!

This is my first time improvising a mitten pattern, and it turned out amazing.

I cast on 36 stitches on 4.0 mm circs for the cuff. Then I increased over 1 row to 42 stitches, giving me 7 repeats of the 6-stitch colourwork. I skipped any non-brown stitches while working the thumb gusset, which always counted as 3 stitches on my “chart” regardless of how many were actually between the markers.
