Notes

I knit these socks two at a time by Magic Loop.

I cast on 16 stitches using Judy’s Magic Cast On and knit one round. I knit round 2 with the working yarn and tail held double increasing the total stitch count to 32. I then continued knitting the toe increases as per the pattern until I reached a total of 64 stitches.

For the foot I placed markers after the first 2 and before the last 2 stitches on the instep needle to mark the center 28 stitches for the Tilting Ladders stitch pattern, which is a multiple of 13 + 2. I continued the foot, gusset, and heel of the socks as per the pattern knitting the center 28 instep stitches in the Tilting Ladders pattern and the rest in stockinette. I knit the heels using the Eye of Partridge stitch.

On the first round after completing the heel I increased one stitch in the center of the heel needle, and then worked 2 additional rounds of stockinette on the heel needle while continuing the stitch pattern on the instep since that brought me to the end of the 3rd full repeat of the Tilting Ladders pattern on the instep. I then shifted the first 2 and the last 4 stitches of the instep needle to the heel needle (the 4 stockinette stitches outside of the markers and the +2 from the pattern repeat) so that I had 26 stitches (2 pattern repeats) on the instep needle and 39 stitches (3 pattern repeats) on the heel needle. From that point on I worked the Tilting Ladders stitch pattern all the way around the leg.

I had enough yarn to complete a total of 5 1/2 repeats of the stitch pattern. I then knit one round plain, decreasing 1 stitch at the center of the heel needle to bring my total stitch count back down to 64. I worked 10 rounds of 2x2 ribbing and bound off using Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off.
