Notes

I received this (undyed) yarn for Christmas last year, and saved it until I found the perfect pattern.

Once I saw the Phoenix pattern from Nim, I knew exactly what I wanted - a very fiery, very bright orange/red.

So…peach mango and orange koolaid to the rescue!

This didn’t take me nearly as long as it looks like to knit; I had to stop and make many other projects in between. I’d estimate a solid 20 hours into it, though.

I did the setup row
first feathers x 1
transition
second feathers x 6
transition
third feathers x 1
transition (beading after every CDD)
sparks x 1
picot bindoff cast on 3, bead, bind off 6 (3 regular, 3 JSSBO)

40” x 19.5” unblocked
61” x 26.5” blocked

Generally speaking, I like my shawls just a little larger, but I didn’t want to do another 5 rows of the sparks, and with a scant 5g of yarn left over, wouldn’t have had enough to do another 12-row repeat.

I probably could have done 5 of the second feathers and 2 of the third, but by the time I realized that, there was no way I was tinking back that much!

I used long Magatama beads for the picot bindoff, which I deliberately did to be spiky and unbalanced, like feather tips.
