Notes

I loved knitting these. I decided to make them full mittens, since fingerless ones are fairly useless here in Canada.

I’m using these mittens to cover some older felted mitts that were mysteriously still not warm enough. This should do the trick!

Sadly, I didn’t take notes when I knitted them, but looking at my FO, I’ve figured out my mods:

  • Basically, I kept repeating the bobbly cable pattern as written till I got to the tips of my fingers (I did 11 full “side branches”).
  • I started decreasing 4 stitches per round till the two side cables on the tops met. On the palm, those decreases happened 2 stitches from the side edges, and on the top of the hand, I decreased right after the side cables, into the reverse stocking stitch.
  • For the centre motif, I stopped doing side branches when I got to the tips, and continued the centre branch, topping it with 3 bobbles (2 on either side and one at the top).
  • I joined the 2 side cables together in a point by knitting all the stitches together. I ended the top by grafting the remaining stitches.

Sounds complicated, but if you knit the whole fingerless part as per the pattern, this will become very obvious and easy.
