After the set up row, you have 9 stitches on the needles. Each set of repeats adds 12 stitches. After set up and first repeat I have 21 stitches on the needles. Then after that I’m adding 12 stitches to each repeat.

I’m using sport weight yarn so I knitted the repeats until I reached 209 stitches on my needles. There are 9 stitches plus 20 stitches for the chart pattern.

So if you are using this pattern and changing the weight of the yarn, it’s 9 stitches and the repeats need to be divided by 20 stitches.
