Well written pattern and beautiful cables. I thought I might come up short and knit 3 plain rows before starting the toe, but it turned out I probably didn’t need to.
The legs are quite snug, the large would probably fit better though it would have been to big for the foot.

If I were to knit these again for myself (with this yarn and needle) I’d probably do large on the leg and heel then decrease on the foot all the way down to small.
