Notes

This beanie fits my 9-month old with some slouch, my 3-year old almost perfectly, and if given another inch or two in the body would also fit my head (granted, I have a small head). So if you make it a bit longer it will fit the intended recipient for quite awhile.

Size: ribbing is 11” circumference unstretched; will fit up to a 20” head comfortably.

CO 64 stitches with 4.5mm using long tail cast-on method.

Work about 1.5’’ ribbing K1P1, then switch to 5.5mm circulars. Work another 1.5” ribbing.

Switch to stockinette stitch and knit until beanie is about 5” long.

Switch to second color and knit until beanie is about 6” long.

Decreasing

Setup: K8st, PM, repeat to end of row.

K to M, SM, K1, K2tog, repeat to end of row.

Repeat until you have 7 stitches left on needles; cast off.

Use a tapestry needle to thread the 7 stitches together and pull tight to close hole.

Add pom pom if you wish; weave in ends.
