i had two thicknesses of weight 4 yarn.
i used the E hook for the thinner yarn, which was the black (Caron’s Simply Soft) for the bottom, and the grey (naturallycaron.com) for the coat. i also only did the last 6 rows of the coat because 9 rows would make it too long.
used the D hook for my wider yarn (all Loops & Threads), which were the purple shirt, blue scarf and off-white head. i increased the head out another row, to 25 sts around, then did a few rows of that before decreasing. otherwise the head was too small.
i used the F hook for the hair (also Loops & Threads), which i made with the loop stitch, doing loops every row by switching hands.
the pattern calls for arms. his are inside the coat. (not really - the coat was very big around even as i changed it, and kinda bulky, so i didn’t make the arms. but them being inside the coat sounded better.)
the one with the computer in the background i made for M; the one with the white & black background is mine. (he has arms!)
