Why can I never remember how to move the yarn when making Latvian braids?!! I always have to look it up to be sure.
I love this pattern! Every row is different, I never grow bored :-)

Mods

• 2.25mm needles for the cuff & Latvian braid and for the lining, 2.5mm for the colourwork, 2.75mm for the thumb.
• Used crocheted provisional cast-on since I’m planning to line these with laceweight yarn.
• Made a picot edge instead of the plain purled round.
• Since I’m going to line these I’m not bothering with trapping longer floats. Just checking that they’re not too tight.
• Using lifted increases and ssk insted of skpsso for the first decrease.
• Changed the top of the mitten a little: did one more decrease round and then one round k2tog, cut yarn and threaded through remaining stitches.
• Changed the thumb decreases a bit. Ended it as I did the mitten.

Timeline
2016-05-29: Grrr! The thumb is too small. I knew I should have used larger needles. Will have to unravel and reknit tomorrow.
2016-05-30: Started over on the thumb with larger needles.
2016-05-31: Even more grrr! The whole mitten except the cuff is too tight for the recipient. Unraveled all the colourwork (down to the Latvian braid) and started over on larger needles.
2016-06-08: Finally finished the first mitten (except the lining). Knitted the cuff on the second mitten.
2016-06-09: Started on the lining for the first mitten.
2016-06-11: Started on the colourwork for the second mitten.
2016-06-19: First mitten completely finished!
2016-06-21: Finished the colourwork on the second mitten and started on the lining.
2016-06-24: Finished lining of second mitten. Soaked and blocked and waiting for them to dry.
