With 72 (and 56) st the lace pattern doesn’t work out evenly so if you want to knit the soles in stockinet as normal you have to start the heelflap 2 st before BOR and on the instep knit 2 st plain on each side of lace repeats. The pattern doesn’t mention this anywhere!!!

Each stripe uses 3g or a little less.

Using 2.5mm needles for the cuff and first lace repeat, 2.25 for the rest.

• cuff 12 r,
• leg (CC 1 r knit & 12 r lace + MC 1 r knit & 2 purl) four times,
• heelflap 34 r stockinet decreasing 2 st on the second r and 2 on the twelfth, round heel,
• picked up 20+1 st on each side for gussets and decreased every second r until 36 st left on sole,
• instep 16-row pattern repeat as above five times + 6 r stockinet with MC,
• toe decreased every second r until 28 st left then every r until 8 left,
• mirrored lace pattern on second sock.
