General
The yarn is less splitty to work with than it looks. It’s quite nice actually, at least for stockinet. Much less hard and unforgiving than pure cotton. I suspect it’s the rayon that does it.
Pattern is quite wordy and I’ve spotted a couple of typos.
Love the way the finished dress fits over the back and shoulders.
Mods
- All numbers for size L recalculated for my different gauge.
- Using lifted increases.
- Knitting front and back at the same time.
- Decided I wanted the increases a little more evenly spaced so started doing princess line increases in front at the bust line and in back at the waist. Changed the increase interval to every 4th row 3 times, every 6th 1 time, every 8th 1 time, every 10th 6 times, then every 12th, 14th, 16th, 18th, and 20th.
- Instead of broken rib at the bottom edge made a folded-in stockinet lining - purl 1 row, knit 6 rows, used 3mm needle to pick up stitches on the inside and make a 3-needle bindoff.
Used 3 rows of broken rib for the neckline and armscyes too. Didn’t like how this turned out so changed it to a folded in stockinet lining. Picked up with a 3mm needle and knitted 6 rows for neck and 5 for armscyes with 3.5mm. Cast off, turned in, and sewed down.
Timeline
2016-05-03: Joined front and back.
2016-05-04: Started increases.
2016-05-07: Took a break from the body and knitted the neckline and armscye ribbing.
2016-05-14: Grrr, I think I don’t have enough yarn. It’s going to need one and maybe two more skeins. I think. This is going to be nerve-wracking!
2016-05-15: Nope, not enough yarn. Particularly since I’m not happy with the neck & armscye ribbing. Want to use folded in lining instead.
2016-05-16: Unraveled neckline and armscyes. Redid neckline and one armscye then I ran out of yarn.
2016-05-20: Yarn arrived. Reknit the second armscye & continued on the skirt.
2016-05-23: Finished! Washed it in the machine using the wool setting. Now waiting for it to dry before photogaphing.
