General
Loved everything about this pattern except the too low and wide neckline so reworked it to be narrower. Since my gauge was a bit off I had to recalculate a lot anyway.

This is an excellent yarn! Fantastic stitch definition and stands up to repeated froggings without even a hint of fuzziness or pilling. And it’s easily spitfelted!

I really don’t understand why this pattern only make the stitches twisted on every second row. Yes, purling through the backloop takes a little longer than a normal purl, but with a garment like this it’s definitely worth the effort. And there is just no excuse for not making every row twisted when working in the round!

Bottom band 4.5mm needles, body & sleeves 4mm, neckband & sleeve cuffs 3.75mm, plus 2.5mm for picking up stitches for neckband & sleeves.

Using Grumperina's method for cabling without a cable needle on the 1x1 crosses and a spare DPN for the 4x3/3x4 crosses.

Using TECHknitter’s trick for a neater transition stockinet-ribbing on last r of bottom band and first of sleeve cuffs.

Using sloped bindoff for neckline.

Mods

  • making twisted stitches twisted on all rows,
  • twisted decreases: instead of ssk just k2tog through the backloop, for k2tog twist left-most stitch clockwise before starting,
  • don’t want holes down my back so working all YOs twisted,
  • using German shortrows (double-stitch) instead of wrap & turn,
  • no increases for the armhole,
  • didn’t do the extra shortrows in the back,
  • made the neckline less deep and wide but used pattern’s shoulder shaping,
  • made the neckband 20 r only instead of 24 and following the advice from this thread decreased away several of the purl stitches in the back on the last r before binding off for a neater edge,
  • picked up 70 st for sleeves and decreased away 2 on first r = 68 st, knit 12 r, decreased 2 st on next r, then every 6th r another 5 times = 56 st, every 10th r twice = 52 st, and every 14th twice = 48 st. Knit 4 r plain stockinet before starting cuff. Cuff 24 r twisted rib,
  • secured back neckband on the inside with cotton ribbon.

Timeline
2019-01-13: I really ought to have tried the combination of twisted rib and lifted increases before starting. It looks awful! frowning_face And since I’m not confident in my ability to drop down and remake all those increases I decided to frog and start over.
2019-01-16: Finished ribbing and shortrows and started on body.
2019-01-30: Separated front and back but continued knitting on both.
2019-02-05: Realised I’d miscalculated the armhole depth (note to self: always make sure that you’re using row gauge and not stitch gauge when you’re calculating numbers of rows!) so I’d to unravel 27 rows and start over rageweary
2019-02-09: Started on neckline- and shoulder-shaping.
2019-02-10: Finished body and started on neckband.
2019-02-11: Finished neckband.
2019-02-12: Tried it on again and realised the neckband was too tall so frogged four r and bound off there instead. Started on right sleeve.
2019-02-16: Not happy with the lower part of the sleeve. It’s too tight. Frogged and started over.
2019-02-17: Finished right sleeve and started on the left.
2019-02-20: Finished left sleeve. Frogged last r of neckband and reknitted with decreases. It’s finally finished! Washed it, blocked bottom band and am now waiting for it to dry.
2019-02-23: Handstitched a bit of red cotton ribbon from my stash to the inside of the neckband in the back.
