Notes

:Lace Border: it’s done ~ I did my lace in stockinette vs the traditional Haapsalu edging done in garter stitch ~ garter keeps the edge from curling but I’m planning on blocking the heck out of mine when it’s finished anyway since I want it as open and airy as possible, so I’m not too concerned about curling

:Transition: I had this feeling that if I went from a 10 stitch repeat lace border to a 16 stitch main chart repeat that everything was going to look ‘off’ somehow ~ I wouldn’t have worried about it if the main chart had any multiple of 5 or 10, since things would line up perfectly then. I decided to do a few rows of faggotting between the 2 charts to trick my eye since little details like that tend to drive me bonkers…I like how the transition worked ~ it looks really nice.

I got this amazing book, The Haapsalu Shawl, from my mother-in-law for Christmas this past year and have been itching to make something from it.

Chose a simple pattern for this project since I double stranded my yarn (a first for me) and I’m worried something more complicated will be a disaster if I miss strands as I’m knitting and have to tink back.

This will be a panel for the window in my knitting attic ~ I cast on 480+1+10 (needed a multiple of 10+1 for the edging and also of 16+1 for the lace charts and this will also have a 5 stitch garter border on each side)

I’m using the lace edge pattern on the bottom of page 181 just for the bottom of the panel and the body will be the Willow Leaf Pattern on page 105.

Used a US 5 needle to cast-on since the book recommends always using one size needle larger to keep the cast-on stitches loose and then the rest will be on a US 4.

Have you seen this book? I can’t put it down….
