Very poorly written pattern. This is surprising because the designer has some lovely designs that are more highly rated. I hope she fixes this one because it would be so lovely, and I’d like to make one as she intended! As it is had to use round-by-round photos & notes HERE by HaveNoDoutt, but still couldn’t figure out Rnd 3, and not sure of some of the others. Re-wrote rnds so it would be square. Following is what I ended up doing, trying to follow the pattern as much as I could understand:
2dccl (2 double crochet cluster) = (Yo, insert hook st indicated, yo, draw yarn through st, yo, draw through 2 lps on hook, leaving last lp of this dc on the hook) twice. (3 lps on hook). Yo, pull yarn through all 3 lps.
pc (popcorn) = 5 dc in same st, drop lp from hook, insert hook in 1st dc and grab dropped lp, pull lp through 1st dc, ch 1 to close

Rnd 1: 8 sc in magic ring, sl st in beg sc to join. (8 st)
Rnd 2: {Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 3, popcorn in next sc, ch 3} 4 times, sl st in beg sc to join. (4 st, 4 pcs)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, (ch 4, sl st at top of next ch-3 sp, ch 2, 2dccl in top of pc, ch 2, sl st in top of next ch-3 sp, ch 4, sc in next sc) 4 times skipping last sc, sl st in beg sc to join. (4 2dccl, 4 ch-4 sps)
Rnd 4: Working behind ch-4 sp of last rnd, attach next color with sl st in any ch-3 sp (to the right of a sc) of Rnd 2; (ch 3, 2 dc) in same ch-3 sp, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, {sc in top of 2dccl, ch 2, (3 dc in next ch-3 sp) twice, ch 2} 3 times, join next color with sl st in top of beg ch-3. (24 dc, 4 sc, 8 ch-2 sps)
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 5 dc, * 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in next sc, * (2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next 6 dc, rep betw * and * ) three times, join next color with sl st in beg sc. (48 sts, 4 ch-1 sps)
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same st and next 5, ch 3, sk 3 sts, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 3, sk 3 sts, {sc in each of next 6 st, ch 3, sk 3 sts, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 3, sk 3 sts } 3 times, sl st in beg sc to join. (24 sc, 4 corners, 8 ch-3 sps)
Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same st and next 5, {* working behind ch-3 sp, dc in 3 unused sts from Rnd 6, sc in next st after ch-3 sp, (hdc, ch 2, hdc) in corner, sc in next st, dc in 3 unused sts from Rnd 6,* sc in next 6 sts after ch-3 sp} 3 times, rep betw * and * , sl st to beg sc to join. (64 sts, 4 ch-2 sps)
My yarn makes smaller square so to get to 6” changed
Rnd 8: to hdc around and (hdc, ch 1, hdc) corners. (72 sts, 4 ch-1 corner sps)
Added:
Rnd 9: {(Hdc, ch 2, hdc) corner, hdc in next 6, ch 6, skip 6, hdc next 6} around. (56 sts, 4 ch-6 sps, 4 ch-2 corner sps)
Rnd 10: {(Hdc, ch 2, hdc) corner, hdc in next 8, working behind ch-6 sp, dc in each of 6 unused sts from prev rnd, hdc in next 8} around. (I caught the back of the 3rd & 4th chs when making the 3rd & 4th dc so the longer ch would be stable). (88 sts, 4 ch-2 corner sps)
Rnd 11: (3 sc) corners, sc in ea st around. (88 sts, 4 3-sc corners)
