1A, 2B, 3C, 4B (full), plus edging
Things that I learned from this project
-Get it written in stone that this will get worn on the wedding day. Even if the bride asks for this shawl FOR the wedding day, doesn’t mean it was worn.
-Before you embark on an epic shawl, make sure that you love the person you’re making it for. These things take LOTS of time.
-Errors in finished lace are OBVIOUS. Take the time to put in lifelines so you can go back and fix the errors.
-Take the time to learn to ‘read’ your knitting and definitely separate the different repeats with stitchmarkers. This would have saved me lots of time had I done it in the first two sections (I did end up putting them in in the third section).
-Follow the directions. I didn’t use waste yarn for my provisional cast on and the seam is obvious if you’re looking for it.
-Blocking a circular shawl on a square frame is not, in fact, easier than pinning it out. Though I do love my blocking frame that my fiance made for me.
-Make sure to keep the shawl wet when you block it! Mine was drying faster than I could stretch it out!
This pattern particularly was very well written and clear, although the knitted edge was a little more work than I was prepared for. Overall, I give it 5 stars. It turned out lovely. My overall work time was somewhere between 80 and 100 hours spread out over two months.

8.23.09 (night) - took over two hours to put this on the blocking frame. My feet are killing me. The good news is that it is DONE. Post blocking it is nearly exactly 60” in diameter.
8.23.09 (afternoon)- pre block size is 42” in diameter. Will be blocking later today.
8.23.09 - It’s 2:15 AM and I just finished the last repeat of the edging chart. Now I have to graft it together and block it.
8.21.09 - Finished 4 of the 12 total sections. My knuckles are screaming at me. One day, I will have finished this damned shawl.
8.20.09 - Finished chart 4! Happy dances all around!!!! Took a while for me to understand the instructions for the edging, but I finally got it and I’m on my way. Worked 8 repeats of the edging, still 88 to go. It is still theoretically possible for me to finish by/on Sunday.
8.19.09 - halfway through row 94. Sooooooooo close the bindoff - only 2.5 more rows till I can start that. Hoping I can finish this shawl by Sunday.
8.18.09 - completed row 88 on section 4. Very little progress tonight as I was writing up the pattern for the Starry Hat pattern.
8.17.09 - completed row 86 on section 4.
8.16.09 - completed row 72 on section 4. Spent all day after the epic cookout working on it. 24 more rows until the edging.
8.14.09 - completed row 60 on section 4.
8.13.09 - completed row 58 on section 4.
8.12.09 - completed row 54 on section 4.
8.11.09 - completed row 50 on section 4. Half of this chart is done.
8.9.09 - completed row 46 on section 4 - that’s 14 rows in one day, 7168 stitches. Yowza.
8.8.09 - completed row 32 on section 4.
8.7.09 - very little progress this week as I was finishing the tapestry cowl and whipping out a sample hat for the double knitting class. Completed row 28 on section 4.
8.3.09 - completed row 22 on section 4. My knuckles in my left hand are quite unhappy.
8.2.09 - completed row 16 on section 4.
7.26.09 - had hit a standstill as a finished section 3 and had planned to bead starting at section 4. Did one repeat (48 stitches with beads) and decided that it was WAY too much fricking work and it would be December before I finished it that way. Nixed the beads and made it through row 5 in section 4.
7.20.09 - Finished row 48 on section 3. increase row then moving on to section 4.
7.18.09 - Finished row 40 on section 3.
7.12.09 - Finished row 20 on section 3. This has taken a back seat to Tour de Fleece so I haven’t been working on it much.
7.03.09 - Finished row 4 on section 3.
7.02.09 - Finished row 22 on section 2. The beginnings of this shawl are going suspiciously fast…
6.30.09 - Had to tink back the three rows due to a miscount on stitches. Fixed the problem and made it to row 8 on section 2.
6.29.09 - Finished section 1 on 6/29 - up to row 3 on section 2
