My modifications:

CO 30 sts.
When decreased to 5 sts, changed the white with pink yarn and made the 4 rows pink. Then again with white yarn, increasing to 30 sts. At that point I picked up 30 sts from the cast on sts and knit every picked st with a live one, just to prevent sewing the two part together at the end. Then joined the blue yarn and after few rows decreased to 26 sts.

I’ve made double ears both with blue and white, cause the white yarn is cotton.
Can’t wait to give the scarf and the matching blue autumn hat to Alex.
