This is the second of two. I made this one for the summer 2013 issue of Interweave Crochet magazine. The other one is the same yarn but in off white; see “Palestrina Convertible” for more on that one.

This is a Victorian love knot mesh stitch pattern that I updated.

I love this yarn and I didn’t know it came in this color! (Color was chosen by the magazine editor). Amazing what a color does. The luster and drape of this yarn is one of a kind.
I’ve worked with plenty of alpaca yarns, single ply yarns, and tencel/rayon-type yarns before, but no other yarn is like Astral. So I was really happy that I got to work with it again for the magazine.

What I didn’t expect was that this terra cotta-like color would give a retro natural summer look to the yarn and stitches. The yarn’s languid luster took on a vintage silk raffia look to me, as it caught my eye in the studio. Isn’t that cool?
