Named for Acropora-yongei or the famous Bali Green Slimer coral; my yarn colorway is ‘Bali’ & the colors remind me of it.
Mods
- Knit until I had 295 stitches before beginning edge ruffle (49 points)
Pattern
Eye of partridge stitch is very simple & easily memorized (aka mindless knitting), & because it is slip-stitch based knits very quickly due to only knitting half the front side stitches. Kind of subtle, though. Purled wrong side.
I think if I were to do it over, I would go up a needle size or 2 to get a more open, lacy effect.
Pattern could use a closeup photo or 2 of the eye of partridge fabric & the edging. And I wish it provided the repeat count of the ruffled edge.
Yarn
This yarn is extremely soft (almost silky-feeling) & dyed beautifully. However, it was spun a little inconsistently, resulting in a slightly rustic look with some tightly plied sections and some puffier, looser plied sections.
There was some bleeding during washing; this is not uncommon with turquoise dye, but I thought I’d mention it.
Measurements
- unblocked: 16” deep along spine x 34” across shoulders
- blocked: 17” deep x 40” across shoulders (all measurments excluding ruffle)
Progress Notes
5/28/11 Finished knitting. (5.5 grams yarn remaining.) Tomorrow: blocking.
5/27/11 Knit to penultimate row. All that is left is row 17, BO, & block.
5/26/11 Knit rows 10-13 of ruffle.
5/24/11 Knit rows 7-9 of ruffle.
5/23/11 Knit first 6 rows of ruffle.
5/22/11 Finished body: 295 sts, extra to account for my gauge.
5/20/11 Bea says ruffle points are in increments of 12 sts, so add extra rows in multiples of 12 (3 rows ea.).
5/18/11 Finished up to the edging (159 sts), but since my gauge is off, I need to decide: smaller or figure out the ruffle increase so I can add a few rows.
5/17/11 28” across top.
5/16/11 10” deep, 24” across top.
5/15/11 Approx. 8” along spine.
5/14/11 Cast on when I ran out of yarn to complete my When I am an Old Woman shawl. Finished about 6” (measured on the spine).
