Notes

This is my first hat for this current project. I started with an aran/bulky yarn to knit up quickly, likewise the 1x1 rib which would add thickness - though I wasn’t thinking that sometimes guys like to stuff their hat in a pants pocket. Acrylic for low cost and washability, though a shop clerk assured me that only wool would sustain warmth.

CO 90 on US 7=4.5mm, knit 2” for a snug brim (possibility of folding inward or up), then switched to US 9=5.5mm. Knit 7” from brim before beginning decrease rows.

The 16” circular needle with this stretchy rib knit meant I didn’t have to switch to DPNs (at which I’m not so adept) during the decrease rows till I had 27 st.

CO 90: 18” circumference at brim, 9” brim-to-crown.
Used 60 gm.

CO 80: 16” circumference at brim, 9” brim-to-crown. Used 54 gm.

CO 64: 13” circumference at brim, 8” brim-to-crown. Used 40 gm. (all knit on US 7=4.5mm)

CO 100: 18” circumference at brim, 10.5” brim-to-crown. Used 75 gm.
