These overshot placemats were published in the Fall 2014 issue of Handwoven magazine. The pattern really caught my eye, but the thought of keeping track of the treadling was daunting.
Early this year along came the Tempo Treadle. I was one of the beta testers, working with Dawne and Barry. After doing some simple projects with the Tempo Treadle on my loom, I decided to tackle these placemats.
There are 1035 picks in each placemat. I am pleased to announce that thanks to TT, each pick is correct and the overshot patterning is beat as close to square as possible.
Note that I wove plain weave fabric as backing on the same warp, as suggested in the Handwoven article. It wasn’t really necessary as the overshot fabric was heavy enough and the back side is secure. But the added handwoven fabric is a nice finishing touch
I am so happy with the results
