Jesse Custer is the main character of a comic book series called Preacher. Survivor of a traumatic and severely abusive childhood, he is forced to go into the church and to squelch the side of him that only wants freedom and love. All is changed when he finds himself playing unwilling-host and soul-mate to Genesis, an omnipotent life-form created from the mating of an angel and a demon. Sharing his mind with this infant immortal, he finds himself able to use the Voice of God -- a method of command that no human can deny or ignore. I’ve caught him in the act of speaking with that Voice -- it casts a red haze over his eyes.
