Notes

Unknown KnitPicks skein from warehouse sale; suspected Shadow laceweight due to sproinginess of yarn; 51 grams; darker red-toward-burgundy kettle-dye, most likely suspect ‘Wine’ colorway 24517, dye lot 86540. Trying to squeak this out with us#4, my smallest circ with enough length. Edit: Rav-swapped for a second skein, and since there was plenty of yarn, used a picot bind off in place of the snaggy little crochet loops.

This will not be a quick project; lots of thru-the-back-loop stitches and the pattern is completely written out, no charts (not a whine, I don’t know how you would go about charting something like this). But it is 100+ rows and prints out to 12 pages, so, yeah … at this point, I am running a lifeline every time there is a new set of markers placed.

At 32 rows, used probably 5 gr. 8 grams at 40 rows. 12 grams at 48 rows. 14 grams at 52 rows (swap out 32-inch cable for 40-inch). 17 grams at 56 rows. 20 grams at 60 rows. 24 grams at 64 rows (swap out to 47-inch cable). 27 grams at 68 rows. 31 grams at 72 rows. 34 grams at 75 rows. 36 grams at 77 rows. 38 grams at 79 rows. 40 grams at 82 rows. 41 grams at 83 rows. 43 grams at 85 rows. 45 grams at 88 rows. 48 grams at 91 rows. 92 rows, 1 or 2 grams left. 51 grams lasted 95 rows.
Final yardage notes: Using #4US needles and finishing pattern-as-written through row 104, then a picot bind off, took 64 grams laceweight, approximately 565 yards.
Further notes: Using the US#4 needles rather than the US#2 called for (and I blocked pretty aggressively) this came out as a full-sized shawl (huge). You can see the difference from the designer’s shoulderette in the last two photos. Drop at center back is 16.5 inches; inside neck edge is 39 inches; picot bottom edge is 103 inches.

08/05: I am not going to have enough yarn to finish.
Need a Plan B.
Plan B: meepfrog-msgd-trade only, Ohio, 2 skeins. On hold for mail delivery.
Swap arrived 8/20, skein identification verified. Onward!

Finished 8/25; blocking tomorrow.

Notes: Not a walk in the park, but not difficult; requires close attention. Make sure you have the right size needles AND enough yarn. I love this, it’s beautiful; but not sure I would make another one, even if someone wanted to buy enough yarn and pay me about $400. I ripped back too many times because of ktbl or ptbl mistakes. I found it helpful to NOT discard the markers when told to. It was easier for me to count repeats and make sure I didn’t screw up. Once all of the twisted rib ‘petal’ sections were established, I moved my lifeline every four rows. Spent two hours on blocking alone, and still not satisfied, but it will have to do. Also, I need more pins. This will definitely qualify in the family heirloom category, because I wouldn’t give it away to someone who doesn’t care.
