This is the first knit I’ve made based on Moby Dick, but it won’t be the last!

When Sanguine Gryphon put out a call for designs based on literature for their Winter 2010 pattern line, I couldn’t resist submitting this idea for a fitted, feminine fisherman’s sweater, adorned with cables based on whaling motifs. I wanted to make something that was traditional, but fit in a slim, modern way.

This design took most of my fall design time, but it was worth it, even with all the charting and cabling and ripping and reknitting… it’s so cool to watch something so textured take shape.
