Notes

Used tubular cast on with crochet chain. Cast on 175 sts for size 40”. 77+43-3+9+43-3+9. Replacing the 3 sts at each front edge with a 9 stitch rib per KonaSF.

  • Planning to do tubular cast on.
  • Also, do 1” straight after bind off for armholes.
  • For the Right Cross-Stitch Cable, knit the crossed stitches through the back loop (row 3).
  • Ribbing band along front http://www.ravelry.com/projects/KonaSF/aidez KonaSF

Only did 2 of the side decreases.
At 15” increase and then again at 17” to give more width at the bust.

Size 10 1/2 needles:
Swatch washed & dried to 13 sts/4” and 20 rows/4”.
3.25 sts/1” compared to pattern gauge of 3.75 sts/1”
Before washing was 16 sts/4”

Size 10 needles:
Swatch washed & dried to 13.5 sts/4” and 21 rows/4”.
3.375 sts/1”
Before blocking: 14.5 sts/4” and 21 rows.

Going to try knitting in the round. Will use US 10’s. Still undecided on the size to knit. My math says the 36” but I’m leaning toward the 40”. dreamergal

So…what has me confused is the gauge per pattern is 3.75 sts per inch but when you do the math the schematic doesn’t match up with the calculations. IE-smallest size cast on for back is 66 sts/3.75=17.6” not 18”. Only .4” maybe not a big deal. But for the 40” size cast on 78 sts/3.75=20.8” compared to schematic shows 22”. A difference of 1.2”. This was bugging me until I found this http://www.ravelry.com/projects/uncia/aidez where she talks about this exact issue along with others that I hadn’t considered.

Knit.fm Episode 2 with Hannah Fettig & Pam Allen talk about where gauge stated in patterns come from. They say that the designer measures the knitted item after completing & blocking it to come up with stated gauge.
