Additional note 29/10/11 - I don’t wear this much as over the course of a day, the slit in the front tends to begin to sag and reveal a bit too much bosom. However: it looks awesome worn backwards! It keeps the opening flat and stylish, and is definitely how I’ll be wearing it from now on.
sniffs I’m so proud.
24/07/08 - We are very nearly done. Just some edging and end-weaving to do. I am well pleased with this, and with my alterations. Apart from the gauge, I’ve done the top half a little shorter than the pattern suggests to make it more of an empire line than it would be otherwise. And logic dictated the other alteration - if a top fits snugly at the waist, a straight line down from there is not going to accommodate anything like HIPS. I experimented with increases at the sides, but didn’t like it, ripped back most of the work, fought my way through the ensuing yarn barf, and re-did it with a set of increases down the centre-back (2 every 4 rows) to make a cute triangular pattern and make some interest on the back. Also, the way it dips in the middle makes it look ace over a skirt. Which is good, because I intended for this to be worn with a skirt I’m planning to make, but haven’t made yet, so hopefully this will give me the impetus to start it. Anyway - big :D :D :D all round for this project. I am definitely a fan of crochet.
16/07/08 - I fail miserably at the specified gauge. Like, seriously. Horizontally I’m on about 3/4, and vertically I’m exactly half. But it looks really nice as it is, so I’m going with it, using the pattern more as a guide than anything more exact. Let’s see if the newbie hooker can handle it.
Oh - I was going to use my Harris Tweed but it looked rubbish, sadly. And I was going to use this yarn to make the Basic Black cardigan, but I already have a black cardigan, so I changed my mind. It’s all changeround here, baby.
P.S. I’ve gone from a few rows (see first picture up there) to nearly the waistband in a single evening. I think I love crochet.
