Fell in love with this pattern then waited for the perfect yarn to come along.
Such a glorious colour. It glows as if it’s lit from within.
This is my project for the Holland Road Yarn Company winter garment KAL.
Project notes
Sometime last spring… not really starting, just swatching and trying out the lovely lace and cable pattern.
26/4/15: Feels thrilling to have started at long last. Today was all about tackling the fancy tubular cast-on. It completely did my head in. There was a LOT of sighing and swearing and muttering, despite an excellent video tutorial. It was all worth it in the end though. The edge looks mighty purdy, even if I do say so myself. And it won’t be nearly so painful next time around.
27/4/15: I’ve been working on the back intermittently today and I love it so much. Wish I could stay home and knit all week.
3/5/15: Realised earlier on in the week I’d got carried away and knit past where the first waist decrease row should have been. Didn’t want to rip back. I figure it’ll work out for the best anyway, given I’m short-waisted. Consequently, my decreases match up to these rows on the chart: 35, 19, 3, 23
Underarm shaping begins on row 33 of chart. Shoulder decreases start on row 25.
7/5: Finished the back! Almost five chart repeats and about 230g of wool. Now I’ve come to a grinding halt because I don’t have any straight needles in the house… Gah.
15/5: Couldn’t find any errata for this pattern but there’s a mistake in the pattern for when to start the neck shaping on the right front. I started on row 9 of chart (+4 repeats). Cast off row 29.
17/5: Ending the weekend halfway through the left front. Woot!
31/5: Sleeve increases are confusingly written: for largest size should be k1, m1, k1, m1, k2, m1 x20, k1
7/6: Both sleeves finished and blocking. Next up, seaming.
28/6: Oops. Poor neglected cardigan. But progress today after a three-week hiatus. Sewing all done and one buttonband. Used this video tutorial for the tubular bindoff:
30/6: So so close. Just the neck ribbing to go (I’ve already picked up the stitches, so that’s the most laborious bit out of the way). And then buttons.
Later that day… FINISHED! All except the buttons. It’s ginormous - there’s no way I could wear it unbuttoned. Will likely need to belt it as well. Thank goodness for belts. So lovely and snuggly though.
1/7: Lovely cardi now has three wooden buttons.
