Knitted these for a speedy but sumptuous birthday present to keep Mama’s hands warm while she’s on school duty - but leave her fingers free to text me.

She loves them, and adores the rich raspberry of this amazing Vintage Purls wool. Only wish I had more of it.

It was my second time knitting this lovely simple pattern. This time round I adjusted it for a snugger fit by deleting a 6-stitch repeat.

All mods:

• cast on 36 stitches
• increase to 13 stitches for thumb (two repeats plus one with no increases before moving to waste yarn)
• work 1.5 repeats after thumb and finish as per pattern
