There is a moral to this shawl - swatch! I actually swatched before the KAL started and changed from a laceweight yarn that knitted up too splotchy, to some red Shetland wool that felt too scratchy, and finally to some bright red sock yarn that is not at all tickly. I’ve also gone down a needle size as I seem to knit looser these days.

1st Sept: Tignish KAL begins - Ready, steady, CAST ON! Using the crochet cast on Luise describes in the pattern (such great patterns - always so beautifully and thoroughly explained) but casting on 267sts to make a smaller shawl as I like to wear them more as a shawlette than an over-the-shoulders shawl.

3rd Sept: halfway through Chart A, and loving it. I’d forgotten how calming it is to do a pattern where you have to concentrate and focus. So good to lose yourself in your knitting….

9th Sept: halfway through Chart C, and the difficult row 1 has been tackled and completed successfully.

13th Sept: the joy of shorter rows and a quick finish! I fudged the top edging a little as I tried to mimic the pattern to get the right number of stitches left after a WS row, and I ended up just continuing to decrease until I had 7 sts on each side (doing a k3tog to incorporate the middle st) and then grafting them together directly, remembering to do the purl stitch as a purl and not a knit. (Yes, I did have to redo that….)

Lovely clear pattern as always from Luise - but you do need to concentrate on those early rows! No watching Scandi-dramas with subtitles…

Blocked size: 43” across the top, 16” deep - perfect!
