Notes

This young lad is called Toby. He was chosen to play a Shepherd in the School Nativity.

I’ve wanted to create my own Nativity characters for some while, but couldn’t decide which pattern to choose. Then I realised I adore Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen’s brilliant book, so I’m going to use this as inspiration for mine (in the style of the characters in the book) using the AmiguruME child patterns. (Ie. a school nativity)
So he’ll be like a school child dressed in a makeshift costume. Seen here with knitted sheep

Oh dear, I’m beginning to wish all child pattern instructions were all together in one section rather than dotted around the book! nerd_face

SHEPHERD 1:
HEAD Child wide/ round p4;
BODY p45;
LEGS p70;
BAREFEET p89; (I couldn’t quite understand instructions for soles of feet. Probably a bit brain fogged! Would help if terms like ‘heel’ and ‘ball/toe’ end were used / charted with pics). Sorry Allison, but in the end I winged it!)

ARMS: p46 for child pattern

SANDALS: I adapted Hoffsteadter sole pattern

CLOTHING: I found this great tutorial on colour changes in crochet CLOAK: Modified Blazer pattern and sewed on striped chains.

HAIR: I used 2 strands Appleton’s 2ply crewel wool in shade 697 for wig cap and hair

Next Archangel Gabriel…
