Notes

This is a delightful-looking pattern. However, for a relative crochet-novice, it has presented me with a number of challenges, so I made slow progress with it at times, (probably made more challenging by my being unwell with a cold/ throat bug), but I just couldn’t put the project down!

The listed pattern finished-size measurements have been very useful, throughout.

I did not use the recommended yarn (which actually looks softer, though thicker than the one I used). Annoyingly, the fibres of my chosen yarn, Rowan Fine Milk Cotton, tended to split with the tip of my hook, which reduced my enjoyment in making the dress and cardigan, as I often had to redo stitches.
The yarn was a discontinued line, hence the limited colour palate.
(I note that another Raveler has used Aran weight wool blend yarn and a 5mm hook, which gives a softer appearance to the pieces; the size of the finished items has not been given, however.)

21.12.2013 Completed the scarf with pompoms.
30.12.13 Finished bag and hat.
Checked YouTube for Crab stitch.

Deceptively, for me, the DRESS (completed 05.01.13) somehow appeared not to be proportionally in-scale with the other items of clothing. So, as I was crocheting, it looked vastly smaller than the other pieces I had already made. I decided to leave its completion until last.

Since my garments were slightly bigger, overall, than the dimensions given in the pattern, having used 4ply cotton and 2.5mm hook, I decided to scan-in and print off the charts as close to actual-size as I could, to monitor the proportions as I worked, which seemed to help.

CARDIGAN (completed 03.01.13) The pattern schematics for the right side did not seem to transpose for the left side, in terms of casting off for the armhole, which was curious. In the end, I chose to reverse the schematics from the right side to the left to make it the same. Also, the top of the sleeves for my cardigan turned out smaller than the armhole of the cardigan body and I had to redo them, adding more stitches, to make up the difference, before sewing them in place.

A symbol-key for charts would also have been useful. I found a good, downloadable crochet symbol chart.

I have also found that the mini-pegs strain and sometimes break under the bulkiness of the crochet cotton, which I did not find with the knitted wool ones.
