Notes

Originally I tried to follow RoxyCraft’s Baby Santa pattern, but I couldn’t understand the hat part and didn’t have the fuzzy yarn required. However, a Christmas ornaments collection without Santa is not O.K., so I just improvised as a brave beginner.

Here are the steps of how I completed my Santa. I used regular cheap acrylic yarns in beige, red and white. I used only single crochet (sc), and didn’t join for a smoother look.

Head-Beige (a basic ball shape)

R1 6 (magic ring with 6 sc)
R2 12 (2 sc in each st)
R3 18 (2 sc in 1st st and sc in next st, repeat 6 times)
R4 24 (2 sc in 1st st and sc in next 2 st, repeat)
R5 30 (2 sc in 1st st and sc in next 3 st, repeat)
R6 36 (2 sc in 1st st and sc in next 4 st, repeat)
R7-13 36 (sc in each st)
R14 30 (sc2tog in 1st st and sc in next 4 st, repeat)
R15 24 (sc2tog in 1st st and sc in next 3 st, repeat)
R16 18 (sc2tog in 1st st and sc in next 2 st, repeat)
R17 12 (sc2tog in 1st st and sc in next st, repeat)
R18 6 (sc2tog in each st)

Hat-Red (a basic cone shape using the same increasing system as showed above)

R1-2 6
R3-4 12
R5-6 18
R7-8 24
R9-10 30
R11-12 36
R13-14 42
R15-16 48

Eyebrows & Beard-White

After decided where the eyebrows and beard would be, I used a needle to first long stitch them on with one strand of white yarn to sort of form the bases. Then, I untwisted some white yarn scraps (one strand into three thinner ones), and trimmed them into small pieces that are 6 cm in length. For the project, I made about 40-50 pieces. And here is where the skills learned from the good old girl scout time come in handy, I simply tied those little pieces with strap hitch knots onto the stitches I sewed earlier to make the fuzzy eyebrows and beard.

To finish off, add the eyes, nose and a round red mouth with whatever materials at hand, and the Santa will be laughing “Ho ho ho” non-stop for you the whole holiday season.
