After knitting about 4.25 inches of ribbing, I used TECHknitter’s trick of knitting the hem closed. 15 stitches before the end of the round, I cut out the bill support, slipped it into the brim pocket, and finished closing the hem. (Next time, I’d consider inserting the support a bit sooner, making it a bit easier to close the hem with support piece inside.)

Rather than the bill from the pattern, I used the 59Fifty Trademark template from GraffeetiWraps.com. It’s deeper, and I think it shapes the brim better. Gaffer’s tape on the edges of the plastic canvas made it somewhat easier to insert and maneuver the bill.

Began stitch pattern on round 5.

Decided to try this again (in a less butch colorway) to see if the concept held and to test crown decreases.

REVERSAL NOTES

After brim, begin stitch pattern on round 5. Work to desired length, and begin decrease rounds after cable round 3.
