Notes

Plan is to make a fairly simple crew sweater to try out this construction technique. I might possibly mimic the styling of Redford. Or I might add some thin horizontal stripes in accent colors. We’ll see.

2021-02-16: Well begun is half done

I tried a couple different cast-ons, and was dissatisfied, repeatedly starting over. (Pretty standard for me.) What finally worked best was cable cast on: that got me the neatest “seam” across the shoulders.

I first tried shadow wraps for the short rows, but German short rows looked better.

For the front shoulder pickup, Phrancko’s video seems to show picking up the stitch inside the Ʌ. Mine looked better when I picked up between them.

When casting on for back of neck, I did purlwise cable cast-on. Similarly, for the front of the neck, I varied knitwise and purlwise cable cast-on to keep it consistent.

2021-02-17: Redford neckline insert

I have 19 cast-on stitches across the bottom center of the collar, so I set up the triangle decoration by purling 17 of them, placing markers outside the 19 stitches.

Before the first marker, M1R, sm, SSK, purl to 2 sts before marker, K2tog, sm, M1L. Work stitches as presented in the alternate rounds.

2021-02-27: Body

Decrease front/back every 20th row (k1, k2tog … ssk, k1).

Increase side panels every 36th row (p1, m1pR … m1pL, p1).
