Mods

Added a rolled edge (à la TECHknitter) for edge stretch and stabilization. Might unpick at the end.

To prevent tightness, did not slip stitches at edges. Right side rows begin and end with k1, wrong side begin and end with p1. (This helps neaten up the edge where you alternate two skeins.

Similarly, I don’t like the slipped stitches before or after wrap & turn—makes a tight edge to those feathers—so purled those as well.

Alternative Bind-off

I didn’t like the look of the bind-off edge, and followed tips from EmmaLouise71 to not leave stitches behind when working Sections H & I. That means you have to break and rejoin the yarn for each feather (picking up a stitch to knit at the beginning of each new feather), but I like it better.

Row 77: Work as written the first time.
On repeats, knit the last stitch in CSSK together with remaining stitch. I call this CSSK2tog.

Row 78: P2 loosely, P to last 3 sts, S1F, K1, P1
I did a yarnover before the first purl to help with slack. If you do that, remember to drop it and not work it as part of the k2tog at the end of rows 77 & 79.

Repeat 77-78 per instructions.

Row 79: As in 77, knit the last in CSSSK maneuver together with the edge stitch (CSSSK2tog).

Row 80: Same as 78.

Repeat 79-80 per instructions.

Row 81: K1, S1B, work first 3 steps of R9, then SSB until 1 st is on right needle, P3T, K2T, K1, CSSSKtog.

82: P to 1 st from end, K1, P1.

83: SSK, CSSK2tog.

P3tog, break yarn and fasten off.

The other wing feathers are the same, except backwards and upside down.

Row 84: Work as written the first time.
On repeats, knit the last stitch in CP2T together with remaining stitch as SSP.

Row 85 & 87: K to last 3 sts, S1B, P1, K1

Row 86: As in row 84, end with SSP.

Row 88: P1, S1F, work first 3 steps of R9, then SSB until 1 st is on right needle, K3tog, P2T, P1, CP3T-SSP.

82: K to 1 st from end, P1, K1.

83: P2tog, CP2T-SSP.

K3tog-tbl, break yarn and fasten off.

I bound off linen section using Zimmermann’s sewn bind-off.
