Notes

11 nov 2015 - gave it to Kirsty, Lola’s mum

  • antler buttons from The Button Shop in Melbourne
  • mattress seam for shoulders; flat seam for sleeves.

MODIFICATIONS

starting chain - do 2 less ch than required then work row of dc before starting pattern (chain is not firm enough to support first pattern row); start edge trim from second row, that is on wrong side and only do three rows of dc then proceed as written.

sleeves
work increase bobbles on 3rd and 6th row.

incr st count after last bobble row only on 6th, 12th and 18th rows of treble fabric; break thread.

reattach thread to 6th st from edge, treble to 6th st from other edge (makes sleeve cap symmetrical); proceed with sleeve cap as written.

waist shaping -
on the 2nd bobble row work 12dr5tog then decr one bobble by working the next dr5tog as follows - (make 2dtr in the next 2ch space, make 1dtr in the dr5tog of the prev row, make 2dtr in the next 2ch space and draw all 5dtr tog). work to last 14 spaces of row, work decr bobble over 2 spaces, work 12 bobbles.
on the 5th bobble row, work 11dr5tog, decrease by working one bobble over 2 spaces as above. work to last 13 spaces, work decr bobble over 2 spaces, work to end of row.
on the 7th bobble row, work 11dr5tog then incr by working the next dr5tog as follows -(work 3dtr into the dr5tog of the previous row and 2dtr into the next 2ch space to make 1dr5tog). ch2 then work the next dr5tog as follows - (work 2dtr into the same 2ch space and 3dtr into the dr5tog of the prev row). work to last 12 spaces, work incr, work 11 bobbles.
on the 9th repeat row 7.

31 may - have completed sleeve to shaping. think that i will have to make it longer as intend to make body more fitted. small seems to be a good size for sleeve. gauge is a little tight (18tr to 10cm) so i think that it will benefit from blocking.
2 june - did chain for body, seems v long. will do a couple of rows of patter to see how it comes out.
5 june - chained on for body yesterday. have done 4 rows of shell pattern.
10 june - have almost finished bobble rows with shaping. not entirely sure that it will work out but then i guess i’ll just rip it if it doesn’t.
11 june - test blocked the sleeve, it opened out a lot. waiting for it to dry and will then take measurements
13 june - blocking made huge diff to measurements, ripped it back to second row of bobbles bc it was going to be too long. ouch. wow, crochet really opens out when wet. re-crocheted to 5 rows of bobbles.
15 june - finished to 2 rows treble on body. wet blocked sleeve and body again. need to work out how long to make body before sleeve and how long body will be from sleeve upwards so that it hangs with waist shaping at the waist (surprise!). meh, i foresee lots of frogging.
undid all but one row of bobbles, changed shaping and then:
19 june - have started again. have finished 11 fan rows of next size up. haven’t ripped the smaller version yet, just in case. it will all be worth it to have something that fits as i want it to.
2 july - have finished body to underarms. have two sleeves of s and m sizes.
14 july - ripped back to underarms and then 4 more rows. finished one front anew. (sigh)

9 aug - it’s been quite warm here in seattle, too warm for this project. until today which was completely overcast and it rained. finished back. should really try it on for a fitting but can’t really face that - am worried that i should have only gone back 2 or 3 rows after the underarm. so worked on the other sleeve instead. 2 more bobble rows to go.
9 oct - oh dear, time flies! picked this up again thursday past after stepping over the bag umpteen times. it’s cooler and wet here so good crochet weather. both sleeves complete, just one front to go, then blocking and finishing.
12 oct - hem edging done, other front done
13 oct - blocked it! thankfully had a fine day. shoulders seamed, one sleeve seamed.
16 oct - bottom, sleeves are too short, have to add a few rows, maybe 4? then re-do sleeve caps
15 nov - finally picked this up again. did one row of sleeve cap.
20 nov - aargh. finished sleeve cap, little too long. ripped. make it 18 rows. also going to rip back bobbles to last increase bc on longer sleeve it is too wide at that point.
22 nov - finished sleeve anew, think it will be ok.
20 jul - collar done.
4 sep - i am getting there. one sleeve done, the other almost done. bought buttons of antler today at esther’s fabrics on bainbridge island.
8 sep - seamed up the sleeves and pinned them in with clips. just need to set them in. tacked on five toggles (i bought 7).
9 sep - set in both sleeves
