Notes

Modifications to both make the shawl deeper and wider:

  • in order to make the shawl wider, need to have 2 extra set up sts so knit garter tab as per instructions (10 sts on the needles: 3 for the garter stitch edge, 4 for the body of the shawl, 3 for the garter st edge); then work kfbf into first and last of the shawl body stitches (instead of just kfb) and kfb into 2 intervening stitches (16 stitches on needles instead of 14)

-In order to make the shawl deeper, make the body increases every 6th instead of every 4th row. If making a striped version, increase will alternate bw mc and cc stripes.

  • also, to make it wider, need to make twice as many edge increases (if increasing every 6th row, extra edge increases will be every third row which makes them on the wrong side of the knitting. If you increase every fourth row for the body of the shawl, then the extra edge increases would mean increasing every other row and on the right side). As a result the first and last of the eight sections will be double the width (making effectively 10 sections) and the finished shawl thus four lace repeats wider.

19 dec 12 - and today i actually finished it, fixed up a row which has a few dozen contrast stitches in it and wove in the ends.
26 nov - cast off!!
31 oct 12 - hooray, started bind off
12 oct 12 - hmm, laid out shawl, definitely needs blocking to see ‘new’ shape properly. don’t know that changing edge decreases has made as much of a change as i might have liked …

1 aug 12 - just finished row 10 of lace. 5/8 through it and 10.3 grams to go. I think I’ll be ok for yardage. There is that horrendous picot bind off yet to go!

25 jul - it’s working out. Just finished stripes, have a few yards of old world left. Really thought I would run out. Lace edging next.
30 jun - 8 sts bw markers so 20 increase rows to go, 120 rows. Shape working out fine, managing to keep track of the wrong side increases.
27 jun - Knit garter tab as per instructions, picked up 4 sts. next row after garter edge sts, kfbf into first and last sts, kfb into sts in bw as per pattern. Doing regular increases every sixth row (instead of every fourth to make shawl deeper) and extra far edge incr every third row (on purl side thus) to make finished edge two lace rpts wider. Will see how I go for yardage.

8 jun 2012 - need to work out what shape to make this. not with the increases in the pattern, maybe more like daybreak? can’t use short rows bc of stripes. how to get edging units to line up with sections?

incr every third row and do extra increases on edges so that there are three lace rpts in that section?

lace rpts line up with increases, 2 rpts per incr section; larger cladonia req incr of a further 14 sts bw markers (to 42sts)

13 mar - ripped lace edging :( weighs 28.3 grams. so each repeat weighs 1.8 grams. plan to knit further in stripes.

  • have extra skein of truffle hunt, 20 grams each of old world and blanket fort to work with. Need another 2 grams of blanket fort for every extra lace rpt.
