Notes
  • sew in sleeve 2
  • finish side seam
  • band 1
  • band 2
  • reinforce neckline
  • fastenings?

back - 220gm

modifications

  • ribbing - use jeny’s surprisingly stretchy cast on; 18 rows deep; on back start ribbing sequence w k1, p2, k2 … increase in the last row of ribbing to create k2, p2, k2 … sequence on the right side.
  • Sleeves - work 2 rpts and 10 rows. work chart as written for rpt 1. for rpt 2 work 3 more incrs every 6th row, starting on row 1. Cast off in pattern on 15th row.
  • back - only 3 repeats in width with 14st columns of rib either side. so cast on 110sts to increase to 112 on last row of ribbing. cast on k1, p2, k2 …

back shoulder and neck shaping

  • as per pattern for size S (140sts), occurs over 15 rows (10 rows for shoulders, 5 for neck)
  • size S shoulder shaping is co30 sts either side of neck. co6 sts, 5 times each side.
  • i only have 112 sts, so want only co32 sts, ie co16sts either side of neck. do not work the first 4 rows of shoulder shaping; work even instead Work shoulder castoffs as short rows. On 10th row of rpt 5, work to 5sts short of the end and turn.
  • continue to work the next 5 rows of shoulder shaping as co5sts, co6sts, co5sts = 80sts remain
  • continue with neck shaping as per pattern.

FRONT shoulder and neck shaping

  • cast on 71 sts. For right front start w k 3, * p2, k2 * Left front work k2, p2 to end, k last 3 sts.
  • neck shaping needs to start 2 rows before shoulder shaping
  • work 8 rows even, commence neck shaping, then shoulder shaping

6 mar - finally! Button bands on. I used mattress st. One sleeve to go!
9 feb - replaced right shoulder seam. right sleeve sewn in and seamed. right side seam done.
3 feb - did some seaming, both sleeves but not all the way bc they certainly need to be longer. One shoulder, one side seam. I have done a couple of other seams in the fuschia yarn so need to redo those properly. Am starting to seam where rib ends, makes things match up much better. Then seam rib separately. More ends but this yarn can take it.
2 feb - collar finished. knitting all done, although i think that the sleeves may need to be a few rows longer. soaking them now to reblock. need to do more seaming so that have clips available.
31 jan - sleeves finished again. 65 sts wide, finished on row 6 of chart. Picked up sts for collar
30 jan - got back onto the sleeves. increasing every 6th row up to 65 sts. length the same as originally. finished row 40. six rows to go.
26 jan - :-( ripped sleeves back to last set of increases. because i have made the body narrower, the sleeves are longer and at the sleeve head need to be wider. need to hank, soak, dry, skein yarn. or could just use fresh yarn and do that later … hmm, tempting!
24 jan - left front complete. also knit band 110 rows.
23 jan - rpt 4 complete!!
22 jan - rpt 2 and rpt 3 complete
15 Jan - rpt 1 complete
12 jan - 18 rows of rpt 1 complete.
11 Jan - cast on for left front, ribbing complete.
10 Jan - clipped all the pieces (so far) together. It’s looking wonderful (if I may say so) and fit is promising. Soooo excited!
9 jan - cast off neckline. am not too sure about it, whether i got the short rows correct …
6 jan - 4rpts complete!! started cast off but am really too tired and need sticky wool for the short row markers.
4 jan - 2.5rpts done
3 jan - 1rpt done, up to row 8 of the next
2 jan 2016 - finished the back!! With short row shoulder shaping. Not quite sure what I did but j think it worked out … Have done ribbing for right front.
31 dec - poor Derwent. I kept working the short rows for the shoulder shaping but I kept knitting accidentally w the 4.5mm needle. And I did a 7st short row where I should have gone a 6st and I frogged it all, again.
30 dec - ugh, a bit of to-ing and fro-ing. Knit the 10 rows ok but started casting off for shoulders and decided it was too messy. Frogged back to the 10 rows and started again w short rows. Mucked it up a bit, frogged back a bit. Almost ready to turn for 2nd short row but have knit the last 2 rows w bloody 4.5mm needles. Never mind, switch back to 5mm tomorrow.
29 dec - second sleeve complete.
28 dec - ok, the next day and it has dried. 55cm in length which is the indicated point at which to start the shoulder shaping. i think i’ll let it sit for a while and start on the other sleeve while i contemplate measurements. rpt one of second sleeve complete.
27 dec - finished rpt four :) wet blocked. Still damp and has been given a good stretch in all directions. Current length, still damp, is ~62cm. Much longer than I anticipated. V curious to see what it will measure when dry tomorrow. Yay, exciting!!
21 dec - yay again, rpt 3 finished! finished row 5 of fourth rpt. can’t wait to wet block this at end of this rpt and see how long it is.
20 dec - yay, 18 rows into third rpt and have re-knit what i previously frogged.
16 dec - finished second repeat (again). Yay (again)!
15 dec - finally back to it. Had to rip back to halfway through second rpt to fix a miscrossed cable.
17 nov - yay, second rpt complete. three to go. question is - do i want it to be 5 rpts to shoulder shaping or 5 rpts to back neck shaping or 5 rpts to end of back neck shaping? might need to wet block at 4 rpts, measure and assess.
15 nov - took a little break to make a hat. row 18 of rpt 2 complete.
11 nov - completed first rpt on back. Expect to do 5 rpts in total.
10 - nov - completed through row 20.
9 nov - completed through row 10.
8 nov - cast on 110 for back
4 nov - change of plan, 2.5 rpts not wide enough and asymmetry was bothering me, even though it would have probably evened out when the whole vertical rpt was complete. going for 3 rpts wide now. will have to think about front again. maybe 1.5 rpts on front instead of 1?
3 nov - disappointing :( the ribbing doesn’t flow at all into the cables. start ribbing again with k1, p2, k2 … increase in the last row of ribbing to create k2, p2, k2 … sequence on the right side.
2 nov - finished 18 rows of ribbing. i really like working w this yarn.
1 nov - cast on 96 sts for back
31 oct - completed 2 rpt of sleeve. After first rpt, width was 51 sts. pattern calls for 57. Did 3 more incrs every 6th row into second rpt. Length at 1 rpt measures 25cm, cable rpt is 17cm. After 2 rpts (second rpt not yet steam blocked), length is 39cm. Work 10 more rows?
30 oct 2015 - just started w a sleeve. decided on 4.5mm needles for rib, 5mm for body. cuff - 18 rows of ribbing

misc
Pattern gauge is 16sts on 6mm in stst, although yarn gauge is 13 on 6.5 to 8mm. So quite dense fabric? 1400 yards.

  • am unsure about this yarn. it has v different texture once it is knit and unravelled. will this even out with a wash? or will the knit and re-knit portions feel different?

18 rows of rib is 7cm deep.
Single body rpt is 11cm deep.
