Notes

cast-off in the round - http://techknitting.blogspot.com.au/2009/03/ordinary-chai...

modifications:

decreases
- i think that the decrease method in the pattern would skew the gloves. make half as many decreases and instead work paired decreases at end of every 23rd row and three times on 24th. i made mine 1st in from the beginning/end of the round.

thumb gusset

  • similarly, after all decreases have been worked, work the first thumb gusset increase at the end of following 12th row and beginning of the next row. work increases 2sts away from beginning of the round.
  • continue to work thumb gusset increases every third row.
  • after last row containing a thumb gusset increase, work 2 rows, placing thumb gusset sts on spare thread before the end of the second row.

hem
- on penultimate row, k to last 3 sts, ssk, k1.
on last row, k1, k2tog, k to end (52sts); then work 5 rows 2x2 rib, cast off in rib.

thumb
round 1 - 24 sts on waste yarn, pick up two sts cast on for hand and 2 extra sts either side (30 sts). designate the middle of the 2 sts cast on for hand as the beginning of the round, ssk, k2 tog, k to 4 sts before end of round ssk, k2tog.
round 2 - k
round 3 - k to last 3 sts, ssk, k1
round 4 - k1, k2tog, k to end
knit 8 rows, 5 rows of 2x2 rib, cast off in rib

mitt 2
29 aug - cast off!
24 aug - thumb sts on holder
22 aug - ready to start thumb gusset.
11 aug - 6”
10 aug - took me a while to pick these back up. have just completed second set of decreases at 5” mark.
2 aug - hooray, i cast on! have knit 6 of the 12 rows of ribbing.

mitt 1
28 jul - weighs 42gm
26 jul - blocked. gauge seems to be about 18sts/5cm
25 jul - first glove done!!
24 jul - hand done, thumb almost there.
23 jul - thumb gusset done with 2 rows after last thumb gusset increases. Made middle of the two cast on sts the beginning of the round. 24 rows straight for fingers. Worked paired decreases either side of beginning of round at end of 23rd and beginning of 24th rows. Then 5 rows 2x2 rib starting w k2. cast off in rib.
22 jul - yep, decided that the hand needed to be longer so ripped back to start of thumb gusset and am increasing every third row instead.
21 jul - put thumb gusset sts on spare thread but it really doesn’t seem long enough … should the increases be every third row instead? or just knit straight now? i think that i just need to knit straight for another inch.
16 jul - last inch, work full 12 rows.
13 jul - two rounds of decreases complete
12 jul 14 - oh, it is so nice to just knit. just knit knit knit (particularly after really demanding stranded colourwork in the trizantine mitts). ribbing and 18 rows done, measures 2.5”
