modifications - old German cast on

• worked half a rpt even before starting thumb gusset, then half a rpt even after finishing gusset incrs but before moving thumb sts to waste yarn.
• on first row where you work p3tog decrs, work only ssk and k2tog on palm side. Work equivalent decrs on next 2 rows. This way you end up with equal remaining sts on both needles and can graft top of mitten closed.
• 22 rows for thumb
• I knit on row 11 of chart, middle four sts as knit; likewise row 27 middle sts.

17 sept - main part of left mitten done\grafting
16 sept - row 9 of 5th rpt done.
15 sept - back on it. first half rpt even done
11 sept - right mitten all done and have cast on for left.
10 sept 2020 - really happy with how yarn is knitting up. Forgot to change needle sizes for first pattern type though, must remember to replicate on second mitten. Just bc.
Aaah, knit two pattern repeats, frogged two pattern rpts, knit two pattern rpts. Plus two rows. Also knit half a rpt before starting thumb gusset incrs bc there wasn’t enough length otherwise. Will have to assess at 2.5 rpts (which will be the twelve incrs) whether am ready to split for thumb.
