Notes

WCW bingo - new to you colourwork (three colours in a row)

172 (192, 212, 228) at 18sts -
95 (106, 117, 126)cm

cropped 22
Regular 37

2nd attempt
4mm - corrugated ribbing
- stocking st
4.5mm - stranded knitting

  • all incrs worked as yo and ktbl on next row
  • only catching floats of more than 5 sts.
  • yoke used 41gm yakpaca; 43gm raincloud and sage; 85gm jaeger

cuffs - cast on 48sts (long tail cast on) in jaeger

  • 8 grey purl bumps, 7 dark brown purl bumps
  • k 7 rounds and incr over two rounds, every 8 rounds, x8
  • every 10 rounds x2 =>68sts

shaping

  • decr on 8th round, 12th round x 2
  • work 20 rounds even
  • incr, 8th round, (12th round??)

27 dec - ended up knitting body all the way from top down (so frogged previous separate hem ribbing). This sweater is going to be a little idiosyncratic but all good. 2 rounds of ribbing to go, then one round of k1MC x k1CC. then cast off. Have worked v hard to use the most possible of the jaeger yarn. I think I’ll only have a few grams left.
15 dec - hem ribbing complete. just over 40gm of bandwagon left.
12 dec - worked on corrugated rib for hem. 36gm left of grey.
22 nov - worked first lower body incr. on 21st round worked yo and knit into back of st on next round as required to get paired incrs. turns out my sleeve incrs are two sts apart, whereas on side seams I’ve done decrs/incrs only 1 st apart. Can live w that.
21 nov - 16 rounds of the waist/middle section done. Knit extra inch down from body on both sleeves.
20 nov - and shortly after that I frogged all the way to the body-underarm split bc I got the numbers wrong. Devastating! Knit an extra round before splitting and incr 8 sts. Split - 91-57-91-57. 3 decrs done.
17 nov - 20 rounds even at middle/waist. Tried on and measured. 2.5cm more for sleeve length. 10cm more for body length after first incr if possible. worked an incr round and 7 rounds even. Came to end of second last full skein. Length from underarm now 22cm.
15 nov - picked it up again and worked a few rounds at the middle/waist. Have done three decreases since underarm, working even now. Tried on a few days ago. Had been anxious about fit. It’s fitted, snug but not tight and i’m confident. Will make sleeves bracelet length - they need another inch or so. Pretty confident that I have enough yarn to complete decent length. Maybe high hip.
22 aug - finished second cuff and grafted to first sleeve. Sleeves may be just a row or two too short. Am about to start a new ball of yarn (52gm) - need to keep track of how many rows I get with it in order to save enough for the ribbing. Worked on body, put in a decrs about 8 rows down from armhole. Will work decrs again on next 12th round.
21 aug - two sleeves done, one with cuff (48sts), one without. half that cuff done, will need to graft to sleeve.
19 aug - knit through 10 incrs. 8 every 8th row, 2 every 10 the row. looks good for upper arm fit but thinking now that cuff is too tight, after all? should be 48, after all?
17 aug - looking at 57:86:57:86. With underarm pick up of 11 or 13 ? sleeves will be 68 or 70. 26 or 28 sts to incr, 13 or 14 incr rounds.
16 aug - ripped back to body/sleeve divide. worked a cuff on 42sts, now working sleeve, 4 sets of lifted incrs done. Aiming for 5
15 aug - working on sleeve. Previously picked up just one extra st for underarm and worked that together w closest body st. That actually lines it up with the crossed sts at the sleeve divide which is a nice touch. After picking up sts and working a decrease extra st round, worked actual decr round either side of centre st. Then worked decr on 7th row 5 times, on 8th row twice, and next … not sure. Need to try it on for length and to determine whether decrs should be more spaced out (I do think so). Maybe work 10 rows even before starting decrs, then every 10th row, then every 8th row? Going for bracelet length.
12 aug - rip rip rip. Ripped back to yoke and divided again for sleeves and body 51:93:51:93 and 11 sts at underarm. Crossed sts at divide for sleeve and body, body st over sleeve.
10 aug - tried it on again. think short rows might be ok when it is pulled down and properly worn. yes to short rows, yes to side decreases. Worked three sets of short rows. After final w&t, k to end of round, picking up wraps. K next round, picking up wraps and start decrs at end of that round w ssk. Next round k2tog, match at other side.
8 aug - picked up sts for other sleeve
7 aug - divided for front/sleeve/back/sleeve. Tried it on, not sure whether short rows at neck were a good idea. I guess that I could remove them. Have knit a round of body, still contemplating short rows. Picked up 11 sts + 1 either side on sleeves (pu 6 + 1, k held sts, pu +1 + 5), work the +1 sts w the pickup up st next to it.
6 aug - washed and drying! Back on the needles and all the other used yarn re-hanked and ready to soak.
5 aug - hooray, yoke finished - 2 weeks knitting!! Can’t wait to wash and block it tomorrow.
4 aug - aaaargh, my first (re-)ball of grey ran out a few st repeats before the end of the last three-colour round (48). No matter, the brown made it all the way through and that doesn’t get used again until the cuffs/hem. Half of last round of colourwork done. But just can’t finish, too tired
2 aug - round 46 done. Only two 3-colour rounds to go, followed by three grey-white rounds. Then finito!!
1 aug - first skein of jaeger used up on round 40. And row 43 is a doozy. But yay, done it.
31 jul - row 37 done. hooray! only five 3-colour to go.
29 jul - row 33 done. Eight 3-colour to go.
27 jul - row 32 done (that’s only 20 to go!!)
26 jul - row 25 done, so two lots of 3-colour stranding done, two lots to go. row 29 done.
25 jul - just started on row 25. last 3-colour row for a while. phew.
24 jul - made a start on row 22 of chart
23 jul - finished collar, only 8 purl bumps of CC2. cont on 4mm. worked incrs in set up rows as yo, to be ktbl on next round. worked first row of chart, then divided for left sleeve (21), front (33), right sleeve (21), back (33). Worked 4 short rows -
sr 1 - k31, wrap&turn.
sr 2 - p31, sl BOR marker, p64, wrap&turn
sr 3 - k64, sl BOR marker, k20, wrap&turn
sr 4 - p20, sl BOR marker, p53, wrap&turn
k to BOR then k row 2 of chart. change to 4.5mm for stranding.
row 7 of chart done. 3-colour stranding, no catching floats, cream as uppermost, grey as lowermost, brown in the middle.
22 jul 21 - cast on on 4mm for neckline and worked 10 rounds w CC1 (grey)

1st attempt
lbj set-up - place a marker every 8 sts in two difft colours - a/a/b - so that marker every 24th st is a difft colour. helps in round 6 when setting up for lbj.

set up lbj ladders every 4 sts.

  • yoke used 55gm of yakpaca; 60gm homestead

21 jul - and I thought I was so clever. Tried on and the lbj 3-strand section, while it looks good, really is bulky and sits differently to the regular 2-strand section. It’s not right. Thought to actually research how to do 3-strand knitting and got good idea from techknitter (of course). Use lay-down technique - first round with grey and brown, second with cream. Did a swatch, may not really be any need for catching floats anyway. Need to wash it and then, ribbit?
13 jun - sleeves:
mark centre underarm st
round 1 - pick up and k 6sts from underarm cast on, pick up and k 2 extra, knit sleeves on hold, pick up and k 2 extra, pick up and k 5 sts from cast on.
round 2 - k, resolve extra sts w ssk, k2tog
place marker 11 sts to right of centre underneath. This is new BOR. k to marker
round 3 - decr round
12 jun - pattern has been updated. Short rows done. 4.5 (?) skeins in, measures 5cm from underarm.
11 jun - am happy with yoke. Or perhaps just relentlessly headstrong. Have divided for sleeves and body bit stuck on short row instructions. Have enquired.
10 jun - yoke finished!! Gave it a wash and tugged it in every possible direction. Drying now.
9 jun - all 3-colour done. yay. and found knitted swatch in grey to unravel so don’t need to dig out another ball.
8 jun - round 46 done. just two more!! And round 49 done too. Only two more colourwork rounds to go!
7 jun - round 36 done. Yay. Only one band of 3-colour to go. Round 42 complete. Only 10 rounds to go!!
6 June - round 35 done. Ack, one short of this section but too tired.
4 jun - round 29 done. Must set-up for round 31 lbj on next round (30).
3 Jun - round 22 done.
2 jun - round 20 complete. Changed to catching floats every fourth st. Works better w numbers, should have done from start.
1 jun - completed rounds 10, 11, 12. Knit round 13 on 4mm, resolved lbj w ssk.
31 may - ripped back half round that i did on 4.5mm needle. changed to 4mm. round 7, 8, 9 done using lbj and three strands.
30 May - ripped back colourwork. started again and set up ladderback jacquard with yo every three sts on round 6. round 7 - introduced third colour (yakpaca), purling 2 strands together in ladderback, not using jaeger where possible bc concerned that i don’t have enough of it.
28 May - continued set up rows for size 2 on 4mm needle, then switched to 4.5mm for colourwork. 9 rounds colourwork done. Three colours in a row is intense knitting!
27 May 21 - cast on 92sts on 5mm in jaeger and raincloud. Might be too loose. cast on again on 4.5mm. finished ribbing and knit first few stocking st rows. might still try 4mm.
22 May 21 - corrugated ribbing swatch. Jaeger, Elsawool, raincloud sage, madtosh churro, hinterland dusk, yakpaca, raincloud on 4mm needle. Gauge 20-21sts.
