The Danish term describing the concept of coziness — “hygge” — embodies a feeling of warmth (pronounced hoo-gah)
adorable design but disappointing written pattern.
modifications:
-
cast on an extra st for sleeve (otherwise pattern would have you work a bulky pattern st all the way to the edge which is then difficult to seam). work this extra st at the end of each patterned row (for 3-in-3 this will be on wrong side and worked as a purl st, for cluster st on the right side and worked as a knit st). may cause these two pattern sections to not line up by a st but can’t tell). also slipped the first st of every row.
-
cast on for front and back in one piece, adding 1 extra st to width at end of row to function as button band; continue to work across front and back in one piece to underarm. do not break yarn at underarm
-
join body and sleeves: k 48 sts across body, place next 4 sts of body on holder; place first and last 2 sts of sleeve on holders, knit to 3 sts before edge, ssk the last st of the sleeve and the first st of the back (this compensates for extra st in sleeve width) (last 2 sts of sleeve are already on a holder). continue to knit 44 sts across back; place first 2 sts of sleeve on holder then k2tog the 45th st and first st of sleeve; k to 2 sts before edge of sleeve, place these two sts on holder; place next 4 sts of body on holder, k remaining 3 sts. st count is 161 (cf 176 in pattern; 15 sts difference is 16 underarm sts on holders and an extra st at cast on)
-
on the p row before the cable rows, decrease only to achieve the nearest multiple of 4 +2; that is, p2tog three times evenly spaced across the row for a st count of 158. (do not do all the decreases before the cable rows as they pull the fabric in.)
-
decrease on the p row after c4f from 158sts to 143; that is, p8 p2togtbl 15 times, p to end
-
strange row where you kfb twice, k2tog x 4, kfb twice, don’t bother. Just k across.
29 jul - finally went and bought buttons. i thought that i had enough shell ones from stash but i left them somewhere near where the children play … bought them at darn cheap fabrics, wooden with blue and red pattern. the blue is a flower and the cardi is for a little boy but hey, they were the right buttons for the cardi.
15 jun - ripped out yoke bc had missed putting some sts on holder :( decreased only 3 sts on purl row (158 sts) then did c4f row.
6 jun - finished all pattern sts, up to decreases before ribbing. I might get this off the needles tomorrow!!
5 jun - back finished, joined for yoke.
4 jun - second sleeve done. body cast on, ready to start 3-in-3.
3 jun - cast on, knit a sleeve. up to first cluster row of second sleeve.
