Notes

3 1/2” garter - 15 ridges
2 1/2” ribbing on 4mm (14rows = 2”)

hem - 10 rows and i-cord bind off not long enough. Try 12? 14?

Need ~1417 yards

  • converted pattern for 20sts/4”
  • knit to measurements of third size (39”)
  • 19sts x 35rows for collar
  • 20 shoulder incrs
  • sleeve cap 58 rows deep, final width 49 sts
  • cast on 11 sts for underarm

Sleeve

  • pick up 4 extra sts on sleeve and decr them out as ssk.k2tog
  • work 16 ridges after the sleeve pick-up row
  • 10 sleeve decrs on purl row in next and every third garter ridge.
  • 1 further garter ridges before ribbing on 4.5mm needle

body

4 mar - far away soooooo close. 10 rows of ribbing complete. to do 12 or 14?? then i-cord bind off.
1 mar - oops, haven’t been keeping good notes. Finished sleeves, just cast off in rib. Finished extra 12 garter st rows on body and first row of hem ribbing.
18 feb - aaargh! Finished skein just after beginning of last decr row on second sleeve. Never mind. Will finish ribbing on first sleeve, then use rest of that ball.
Hmm, it’s official. This is just not working for me. And the colour is too dark. Just need to get it finished.
14 feb - finally back working on the sleeves. Have done 2 decr rows on right sleeve. Am not confident that body is long enough. Either way, ribbing isn’t long enough so will need to rip back i-cord bind off and do a few more rows of ribbing.
11 feb 2018 - ribbing at hem done, i-cord bind off done except for grafting final sts. won’t do that until i’m completely sure of length. the garter fabric is v stretchy.
29 dec - body garter st portion complete. ribbing to go.
28 dec - hmm, just as i feared - interim wet block and the sleeves cover my fingertips. good idea of body length though. knit 10 garter ridges out of maybe 15.
22 dec - plugging away at the body. have knit through almost a ball today. 50 rows done but might easily want that much again.
19 dec - second sleeve decrs complete. 38 sts. Need maybe 3” more length. Work 2 more ridges, then ribbing? And how to cast off. Some have done applied i-cord which is an option. Maybe just a tubular cast off? That might be difficult though bc it’s not 1x1 rib all the way. And i-cord bind off could be nicely worked on the hem too.
17 dec - yay, back to it. Ready to start decrs on sleeve 2.
28 nov - decrs finished on first sleeve. might be long enough with ribbing added. will work other sleeve first for better idea of fit. after completing that, should also soak and block before continuing w body.
27 nov - frogged sleeve decrs, slope was too steep. now working decr every fourth garter ridge. have done 7 so far
26 nov - oops, haven’t been keeping v good notes. Worked 12cm even on sleeve then started decreases.
20 nov - finished sleeve caps!! divided for sleeves and body. Cast on 11 sts for gap. Extra front increase on 8th row. Have worked 13 rows even out of 14 before starting body shaping. Weighs about 235gm.
18 nov - finished the sleeve caps! Ripped the sleeve caps. I must learn to count. Recalculated the sleeve cap incrs for my gauge of 20sts.
15 nov - had to rip a few rows bc I missed a paired incr somewhere. Shoulder increases all done now, 20 altogether. 15 rows out of 50 of sleeve cap shaping done. Weighs about 90gm. My re-mapping of the sleeve cap is very specific and I think every row may be different so have to work from chart v carefully.
14 nov - v happy with the single strand fabric. Charted out the sleeve cap this morning.
13 nov 17 - yesterday tried smallest size knitting w two strands but it was going to weigh a tonne and I would have had to buy more yarn and I knit all the way to the sleeve cap shaping but had to rip it bc I got the stitch count wrong … today I am knitting w one strand and knitting to measurements of 43” not stitch count. So, collar rectangle is 19 sts x 35 garter ridges.
Six shoulder increases done.
