alternative cast-on

medium (stocking st to 181), three rpts of lace chart

note to self - when using judy’s magic cast on for a garter stitch tab, work one row less than pattern requires before turning to pick up along side.

27 feb - done! Done done done!!!
23 feb - still casting off. have done 24 points. 12 to go.
30 jan - beads arrived. finished putting them on row 12 and have done picot bind off along 5 points. laborious.
23 jan - aaaaah!! Row 12 of edging done. Just one more pattern and bead row, then cast off. Ran out of beads. Ok though bc for some strange reason, the beads are to go on after the stitch is knit on this final row. So, can knit to end of row (am past halfway) and then add beads after the fact before doing bind off. This way I will also know how much yarn I have available for the bind off. Will it be enough?? done - 26.8g, left. yes, sure to enough
22 jan - row 11 of edging done. Will run out of beads on next pattern row. Ok, have ordered more, just need to wait.
21 jan - third chart C complete. 45gm left.
20 jan - row 20 of third chart C complete. Only four goes to go, I actually feel a bit sad!
17 jan - first six rows of third chart C done. I won’t have enough beads (!) so will need to order more. (Ah, no sweat. Thank you eBay).
16 jan - first 2 rows of third chart C done.
13 jan - 69.8gm left after second chart C.
12 jan - first chart C finished, 91gm left. Completed 2/3 of the second chart C, 78gm left.
11 jan - all done but one row of section c. Will certainly knit it twice. Not sure about third time.
10 jan - oooh, stocking st set up section complete. 181sts. Change to 4mm needle. Lace set up row finished too. Beads look great :) 107.5gm left
8 jan - grr, frogged - numbers wrong :( also that alternative cast on is only applicable if using an old version of the pattern. New version (2017) uses difft edging. I’m going g to try that now bc I was also concerned about the alternative edging taking out some of the depth of the stocking st portion. Hmm, maybe I didn’t get the count wrong after all! I kept thinking that there should be an extra 12 st repeat every 4 rows, but of course it’s an extra 12 sts overall, only 6sts each end. It’s a new 12st rpt every 8 rows. Anyway, cast on again and going fine. 6 rpts wide now.
5 jan - and again. Finally got cast on and completed alternative set up.
