Notes

Knitting order:
Fronts
Sleeve cuffs in green
Back hem in green (if there’s enough)
Back in blue
Sleeves
Front ribbing

method

  • knitting the martin storey design but using customfit v-neck cardi pattern. cast ons are thistle numbers (but only 1st off from CF pattern anyway).
  • CF shaping at sides on front, princess at back.

modifications

  • change raglan sleeve to set in sleeve
  • change neckline to v-neck
  • lengthen

front bands - can i wear the green close to my face or should i make at least the front bands blue? hems and cuffs can be green
back - plain blue not striped - what colour ribbing? if i have enough buttonjar, should use that (so knit back ribbing last)
Sleeves - striped but not in progression. use 2nd widest stripe all the way.

Hem edging and height: 1x1 Ribbing, 1½"/4 cm
Sleeve edging and height: 1x1 Ribbing, ¾"/2 cm
Button band allowance: 1"/2.5 cm
Button band edging and height: 1x1 Ribbing, 1"/2.5 cm

10 sep 2019 - going to rethink this and possibility of using ladderback jacquard technique and intarsia.
28 mar - knit 3 rows! in 2 hours! wow. might need to go down to 2.75mm needle. will knit an inch or so of colourwork and then block and see how it fills out. loving it though.
27 mar 16 - ok, cast on after two failed tubular attempts, used long tail on 2.75mm. 67sts for front. knit 6 rows of 1x1 ribbing, 10 to go (as per CF).
25 mar 16 - swatch on 2.75mm initially looks like 28.5:41/10cm
24 mar 16 - finished swatch on 2.75. I hope that it’s not way more than 28 and I have to swatch again on 3mm …
Also, I like the striped sleeves but haven’t been fully sold on them. I think I’ll do then striped but not w the changing widths. Just mid width or a bit narrower the whole way. That’s sitting well.
21 mar - swatch worked out at about 24:38. Pattern asks for 28sts. my customfit pattern is for 28:41. Might try 2.75mm needles.
13 mar - swatch finished, soaked and dried. It’s hard to count on dark wool! Particularly the rows. Got around 24.5st:39r/10cm. Have a hankering to use my existing customfit pattern rather than paying for a new one. Would make this cardi about 10cm shorter, put front shaping at the sides, regular back shaping.
10 March 2016 - started swatching w some leftover Brooklyn tweed loft in soot on 3.35mm needles. At first glance, spot on 28sts. Curious to see what row count will be. May be able to actually use my current customfit v neck cardi pattern if I place the front shaping at the sides. Assuming row gauge is the same …
