Notes

These are addicting! I challenge anyone to make just one. Once you make one, you see how easy it is to vary these - which makes you want to try to make a different one. Again and again.

I’ve started with a circle of chains like the pattern calls for, and I’ve started with an oval shape of chains as a base. After about the third round I prefer to crochet some of the rounds with a single crochet stitch into each single crochet stitch in the round below. This makes for a less compact puff and makes it more flexible for using to wash with.

I recommend using an “I” or “J” hook and crocheting somewhat loosely. Not floppy loose, but not tight at all. If crocheted too tightly, it’s just becomes harder to work than it needs to be.

This is a great project to use up odds and ends of left over kitchen cotton. Mixing colors and using variegated yarn make these so interesting looking. I estimate that it takes about a skein’s worth of Lily’s Sugar and Cream to make one large puff.
