Notes

My plan is to felt these so I am using a large hook, holding the yarn double and adding an extra round of double crochet after round 4 and before the single crochet edging.

I had a moment of panic during the felting when I opened up the washer to check on them and all of the centers on the hexagons had opened up to make large holes in the felting fabric. I had used a magic loop for the centers that I guess had somehow come loose with the agitation and shrinking of the yarn. I used a needle and yarn to close up the holes and continue on with the felting and that miraculously saved the project. So MAKE SURE to secure those centers before felting!

It took 28 minutes of agitation in hot water for them to felt down to a women’s size 8.

I put them on my foot, squeezed them to shape to my arch and ankle, gently slipped them off and stuffed with plastic bags to retain this shape while drying. They were really furry from the felting so I shaved the excess fuzz off with my husband’s beard trimmer.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE! (Even though felting is very anxiety-producing for this Virgo.)

I added leather soles using the instructions in link text 53chevy’s Attach Leather Soles to Felted Slippers project. Hopefully that will make them less slippy and extend the life of the slippers.
